Insanity, it is currently ruling the stores, roads and minds of people all around us. People rushing around to try to find that perfect gift or worse traveling on the roads from place to place. The sounds of the seasons have become horns blaring and people yelling. Stress levels are through the roof and there never seems to be enough time to get half of the To Do list done, let alone the entire list. A quick look at the calendar confirms. The end of December draws near.
Among all this craziness, stress and cacophony of noise there are a select few who are rising above it all to do something unheard of during this time of year. They have found their oasis in the storm. These few have chosen a different path. They have chosen ...to savor every moment.
It isn’t as if they don’t have the same stresses, To Do lists, and traveling that the rest of us have, they do. Yet for some reason, in the midst of all of it, they are taking a breath and simply remembering the moment. They are savoring it even. When is the last time you did that? When is the last time you stopped rushing around and savored the moment.?
I admit to you, that I am trying my best to be among the few this year. We have so many reasons to be thankful (good health, my husband is home with us, each other, new friends and family, my eldest’s special honor this year, .and many more. We have challenges as well, (money, family relationships, extra obligations, etc.). Yet I want to try to savor this life moment. This is the last year my family will be how it is. This is the last time all my children will be living with us during Christmas. Next year our eldest will live separately from the family and we will no longer be in Georgia. Our lives and family will never be the same again. *Sigh* This isn’t a melancholy or bad thing at all. In fact we are excited about the future. I just want to enjoy the moment now, for it will never come again.
Isn’t that true for all of us? Nothing will ever be like this again. Change is a guarantee in life (sort of like taxes but we don’t have to worry about that for another couple of months). Change is also constant. We tend to only notice change when it is rapid but most often change takes a slow and gradual approach. Tiny, seemingly insignificant things change constantly and consistently. Life moments surround us, we just don't always notice them as they slip by us. Which is why I urge you to take a moment away from the crazy insanity of the Christmas Season and savor the moment and make a memory. That moment that you take to make that memory will be well invested. It will in fact be the moment when you realize that you really are still living your life and not merely getting through it. Powerful. So, join the group. The Few. The Proud. The Memory Makers.
