Future Telling

You just never know.  We all do it and not just once.  We do it all the time.  Sometimes we notice but mostly we never even take notice.  That is one reason why it is SO dangerous.  It is not guaranteed and yet we feel certain and depend that tomorrow will arrive with us in it.  Occasionally, something happens that reminds us how precious and ethereal life really is.
Yesterday I woke up to a scary Facebook post from a dear friend.  Her young nephew was on his way to the Emergency Department.  While there his blood sugar skyrocketed to over 400.  He was immediately transferred to a children's hospital. My day was wrecked.  A sweet baby might be slipping away.  I'm sure his family hadn't awakened that morning thinking it might be his last. They expected a future with him in it.  It appears that they will indeed have that future together I am thankful to report.
How many times has your day started one way and ended another because of a life emergency?  No one wakes up thinking, hmm, I need to get my affairs in order because I'm going to be in an accident today.  I know I don't.  I have come to terms with my own mortality and my life has been in immediate peril more than once.  Yet for the most part I still expect to make it through.  We all do, and most of the time we are correct.
Unfortunately, we often let that lull us into a false sense of security.  There is no guarantee of tomorrow or even of five minutes from now.  While I encourage you to plan for tomorrow and the future, let's not lose sight of the fact that we are living in the present.  In the words of an old song, "Take this moment and Live this moment".  With an eye and a plan for tomorrow let's live in the moment.  Enjoy the limited time we have with our loved ones and really live.
